Along the green slopes of Haleakala are the small towns of Upcountry Maui. The backdrop to it all - magnificent Haleakala ("House of the Sun"). This 10,023 foot volcano is not extinct, but only dormant, with it¹s last eruption being less than 200 years ago. Much of the land upcountry is ranchland. Cattle, sheep and horses graze the huge tracts of Haleakala, Ulupalakua and Kaupo ranches.
